Keep These Things in Mind...

Coral Collins

There is no shortage of stand-alone Bookkeepers in Central Alberta offering very low rates. But just like everything in life, cheaper isn't always better. When hiring a bookkeeper, the quality of work provided will always make the cost worth it and could save you money in the long run.

When hiring a Bookkeeper, keep these considerations in mind:

EXPERIENCE - Most professional Bookkeepers have years of experience and training behind them. You should look for a Bookkeeper who can substantiate their experience through business references and/or various business certifications such as certified through IPBC and you can be assured that individual knows what they're doing.

CONTRACTS - Most professionals will supply new clients with a contract before any work begins. This contract details what needs were discussed, rates and fees and expectations between client and contractor. A confidentiality waiver should always be included.

SET UP/ONBOARDING FEES - Whether you are a brand new business starting up, or an already established business that has been taking care of your books yourself, you should always plan for extra cost in the beginning. Setting up from scratch takes time as does going over current systems looking for errors and areas that need attention.

RATES - Every professional Bookkeeper develops their rates based of what they feel is fair for their time based on their experience and training. It is common to see hourly rates charged for catch up work and the first three months of service to allow for an accurate scope of work to be quantified. Monthly rates can then be established and be cheaper than hourly rates.
